Background

The Theory & Algorithm Unit is strengthening its team to further accelerate R&D aimed at enabling real-world applications of photonic quantum computers. From developing quantum algorithms and middleware for current and future photonic quantum computing platforms to establishing the theoretical foundations of quantum advantage and quantum supremacy, they explore the applications and potential of photonic quantum computing from a theoretical perspective. For this position, they are seeking highly motivated candidates with strong potential, a keen interest in photonic quantum information processing, and the ambition to become future leaders at the forefront of the field through quantum algorithms and their underlying theory.

Key Responsibilities

This position involves the research and development of software and theory related to optical quantum computers. You will provide support for the duties listed below.

  • Exploration, design, development, and research of short-, medium-, and long-term applications for optical quantum computers (e.g., Quantum Machine Learning, QAOA, optimization problems, quantum communication, optical communication, quantum chemistry, FTQC, etc.)
  • Theoretical foundations of photonic quantum advantage and quantum supremacy
  • Research on the architecture of optical quantum computers
  • Implementation of quantum algorithms using their proprietary optical quantum hardware, as well as the exploration of methods to optimize implementation efficiency

Requirements

  • Completed or expected to complete a Master’s degree or higher in engineering, science, or a related field
  • Foundational knowledge of quantum computing, quantum information theory, and quantum algorithms
  • Basic programming skills, as well as numerical computation and simulation skills
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and write academic research papers
  • Communication skills suitable for various professional environments, including corporations and research institutions

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience writing scientific papers as a first author.
  • Experience in both experimental and theoretical research.
  • Conversational proficiency in Japanese.
  • Experience working at a quantum computing-related company.
  • Knowledge, research experience, and implementation experience regarding continuous-variable (CV) quantum algorithms
  • Knowledge and implementation experience regarding classical machine learning and neural networks.
  • Experience conducting research using actual quantum hardware.
  • Basic knowledge of continuous-variable quantum error-correction architectures.
  • Basic knowledge of experimental implementations of continuous-variable photonic quantum computing.
  • Experience conducting R&D within small teams.
  • Experience collaborating and conducting joint research with experimentalists.

Terms and Conditions

  • Annual Salary: 10 million JPY or higher (determined based on experience and skills)

  • Bonus: None

  • Salary Increase: Once a year

  • Probation Period: 3 months

  • Location: Tokyo

  • Social Insurance: Fully covered

  • Working Hours: Flextime (Core time: 13:00–16:00)

  • Holidays: Saturdays, Sundays, and National Holidays

  • Average Overtime: Discretionary labor system
