Global Recruitment
The company aims to implement a “quantum internet”—a next-generation infrastructure where eavesdropping and decryption are physically impossible—to protect passwords, corporate secrets, and financial and medical data from threats such as quantum computers.
They are developing the hardware and systems essential for long-distance quantum communication.
・Development of quantum communication systems and quantum repeaters: Developing long-distance quantum repeaters and related systems to extend the range of quantum communication beyond current distance limitations.
・Research and commercialization of core technologies: Developing and commercializing key technologies such as quantum entanglement generators (light sources), quantum memories, wavelength conversion, and frequency stabilization.
【Strengths and Characteristics】
1. Possession of world-class core technologies
The company is a rare global technology group that possesses—in-house and comprehensively—the foundational technologies required to realize long-distance quantum communication (including quantum entanglement light sources, quantum memories, and wavelength conversion).
2. Strong industry-academia-government collaboration and financial backing
The company has been selected for numerous projects, including major startup support programs run by NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization).
3. An environment for cutting-edge engineers and researchers
The team brings together top-tier physicists (PhDs) and engineers with advanced expertise in fields such as quantum mechanics and optics, creating an environment where they can engage in state-of-the-art hardware and software development.
They are seeking a researcher to advance the development of quantum repeaters and quantum communication systems by leveraging their own specialized expertise.
Their research and development efforts transcend any single field of specialization. They tackle technical challenges that remain unsolved globally by integrating multiple disciplines, including optics, mechanical engineering, electrical/electronic engineering, control systems, and software.
In this role, you will use your core expertise as a foundation to formulate hypotheses, conduct iterative experiments and verifications, and drive your research themes forward.
Prior experience in quantum engineering or quantum communication is not required. They are looking for individuals who can apply their existing expertise—whether in physics, optics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, control systems, or software—while also venturing into new areas as needed to advance their research.
<Key Responsibilities>
Depending on your experience and expertise, you will be responsible for one or more of the following research and development areas:
Research and development of optical and quantum-optical systems (e.g., using lasers)
Research and development of components such as entangled photon sources
Construction, alignment, and performance optimization of optical systems
Laser stabilization and phase synchronization
Research and development of digital/analog control systems
Feedback control
Electronics and circuit development
Mechanical and structural design
Miniaturization and modularization of quantum repeaters
Development of hardware control software
Theoretical research on quantum repeater protocols and related topics
Research on applied technologies utilizing quantum communication
Implementation of research outcomes into prototypes and products
You are not required to have experience in all of these areas.
Experience in research or research & development (R&D) in one or more of the following fields:
・Physics / Experimental Physics
・Optics / Lasers
・Electrical & Electronic Engineering
・Mechanical Engineering / Mechanical Design
・Control Engineering
・Electronics
・Software
・Other fields related to physics or engineering
They also place high value on the following research-related capabilities:
・The ability to formulate hypotheses and drive research and development independently.
・The ability to autonomously conduct experiments, design work, and analysis.
・The willingness to learn about and incorporate knowledge from fields outside your own area of expertise when necessary.
* A Ph.D. is not required. We prioritize your actual research/R&D experience and your ability to conduct research over the specific academic degree held.
* Prior experience in quantum engineering or quantum communications is not required.
・Proficiency in communicating in either Japanese or English.
・PhD or equivalent research experience
・Optical design
・Interferometers and optical resonators
・Nonlinear optics
・Quantum memory
・Photonic crystals
・Laser stabilization and phase locking
・Development of mechanical/physical systems
・Feedback control
・FPGA/DSP
・Analog circuitry
・Mechanical/structural design
・CAD
・Miniaturization of circuit boards and modules
・Hardware control software
・Research in quantum information and quantum communication
・Prototyping and commercialization of research outcomes
・Experience in research and development spanning multiple technical fields
